Weekly review

Week in review #9

It’s been a brilliant week ending on a high with Mother’s Day on Sunday, it’s also the start of the March when the weather starts to get a little warmer and we say goodbye to those dark nights in favour of lighter evenings. My best bits of last week include our monthly trip to the comedy, our little one standing, and Mother’s Day. We also had our little one’s BCG jab which went surprisingly well. Here’s a look back at the highlights:

Comedy

Last week was our monthly trip to daytime comedy at a local pub with some of the NCT ladies and their babies. Like last month we had a great giggle over wine and burgers, and baby food. The two acts were stand-up comedian Tania Edwards, and James Redmond also known as Fin from Hollyoaks and Abs from Casualty, I was quite amazed that he was doing a comedy gig for about 50 Mums with babies. I had to Google what he looked like in Hollyoaks, taking me back to when we would watch the Hollyoaks omnibus hungover on a Sunday at uni.

She can stand!

This week our little one gained another new skill, she can stand against something without being held. We have a fabric topped ottoman in our living room which is the perfect height and also soft to avoid any knocks and bruises. It’s also dark grey to hide any dribble marks. I can’t quite believe she can stand, it’s so cute when she does it as she looks like a mini person.

The BCG jab

This is not really a highlight, but it went better than expected so I’m going to write about it. The jab is only offered to those under 1 and in high risk areas of the country, we live in London so we are classed as higher risk. Now with the last set of immunisations our little one screamed the surgery down so I was a little worried about this one, but with the BCG she was fine as the needle only went under the skin rather than into the muscle. They say that a blister or lump may appear up to 6 weeks after the injection which is the body reacting the jab, so far no signs of any lump or blister appearing.

Mother’s Day

This is the highlight of the week for me. The day started really well with a cup of tea being brought to me in bed, and still being in bed at 8am! I can’t remember the last time that happened. We then all got up and got ready to brave the underground and cold weather of central London for a lovely walk from Green Park to Hyde Park taking in a loop around the Serpentine, before heading back to Piccadily for lunch. Fortunately we managed to bag a booth in Prezzo, we hadn’t booked so we were unsure if we would get a table with it being Mother’s Day. The booth turned out perfect for us and our little one, we were also able to keep the buggy next to us meaning we had somewhere to put our little one when were eating. As it was Mother’s Day I enjoyed a glass of Prosecco on the house, and had a lovely meal of Fusilli Gorgonzola followed by a Blood Orange Polenta Cake. We did have a starter of bread that I hoped little one would share, but it went straight on the floor. My husband was awesome, getting me some lovely chocolates from Hotel Chocolat and a bunch of gorgeous flowers from my daughter (here’s a pic, my first pic on my blog!)

I had a great first Mother’s Day, and I hope that everyone else did too.

It sounds like you had a lovely Mother’s Day! I’m still trying to work out how to eat out with the baby – all of the food that we bring for her ends up on the floor, so me and my husband end up on our hands and knees with baby wipes because we’re so embarrassed by the mess. And it’s great when they can finally stand on their own – the Popple recently learned how to do this and she’s so pleased with herself! #TwinklyTuesday

Same here all the food goes on the floor, her and me! I’m waiting for the day that she can pull herself in her cot. Thanks for reading and commenting lovely. Claire x

It sounds like you had a lovely mothers day – we were lucky a table in giraffe when we didn’t book – after we sat down there was a massive queue! Glad the BCG went well – Zach had that when he was tiny back when he didn’t really fluster at the jabs. We just had his pre-school jabs and that was a whole other story! Great news that you managed to get a table, and I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day? Thank god we are done with the jabs for now, until she turns 1. Thanks for hosting #TwinklyTuesday. Claire x

Ah happy first mother’s day lovely! What pretty flowers you got! I’m so glad to hear the BCG went down ok. I’ve heard that one can be quite painful for some children. Thanks so much for sharing with us at #bloggerclubuk x

Thank you! The flowers are lovely but they are slowly drying up 🙁 Luckily we still haven’t had a reaction to the BCG so I’m hoping that she’s ok. Thanks for reading and commenting. Claire x
