Parents in Business featuring Organised by Charlotte

Exciting news! There are a couple of changes coming to my Parents in Business series from now on. If you’ve been following my blog for a while you’ll see that it has morphed from a parenting blog to a lifestyle blog, which has naturally happened as my children have grown older and my passions for interiors and lifestyle has grown too. So expect to see more lifestyle, interiors, architect businesses here as part of the series, along with a few parenting focussed businesses too, that’s where this blog began and important that I also stay true to that.

So kicking off my slightly revised series, I am super excited to be featuring Charlotte, who has created her own amazing business – Organised by Charlotte. If you have a home to organise, then Charlotte is someone to inspire you. Her kitchen cupboard organisation tips and tricks are on point, and I’m already inspired to sort ours out. You’ll find loads of ideas on her Instagram, but first of all have a read of her business story below…

Tell me a little bit about you, your background, and your business?

My name is Charlotte, I have two gorgeous girls Poppy-Rae & Nola. My husband, Jonny founded my1styears so I am no stranger to a little hard work and entrepreneurship!! I fell into organising and decluttering during maternity leave of my second daughter Nola. I have always enjoyed keeping a tidy house, and when a friend wanted to pay someone to declutter her flat I wouldn’t let her! After helping her declutter, I realised that this together with my passion for interiors could potentially be a business! So I started telling every friend I would meet during maternity leave and eventually a friend asked if I could help them, and then she recommended me and slowly I started to build up my clients.

I then reached out to a few friends who were influencers, to see if I could broaden my reach. My lovely friend Phillipa kindly agreed to let me organise her kitchen, but then lock down hit! But I created a virtual plan, and she executed it incredibly. She then very kindly shared it on her blog WeAreTwinset  and introduced me to Sarah and I started building my content with the help of the platform they gave me.

What were your motivations for setting up your business?

De-cluttering is kind of theraputic, I know it sounds silly but once everything is clear it really makes me feel good. Being a mum to two young kids, its so important to have your own goals and job, being a stay at home mum just wasn’t for me. My husband is so successful, it really drives me to want to succeed so my girls can see mummmy and daddy working hard.

How do you balance the business around your family and childcare?

At the moment its really hard, I am working through every nap time and every evening. But I know it will be worth it in the end – and nothing is really going on at the moment anyway is it!!!

Since setting up your business what’s been your biggest success to date?

My biggest success was being in Hello Online, it felt like such an achievement for little old me!!l

What are your top tips for anyone who is thinking about setting up their own business?

There is never a good time – so just go for it. Don’t worry about what people may think, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or favours its amazing what your friends can do for you, I find if anything my friends give me the confidence to believe in myself.
