Week in Review #12 – Our Easter weekend in Tenby

Our highlight of the week was taking a trip to Tenby in South Wales for the long Easter weekend, it was lovely and relaxing to escape London for a few days to enjoy the fresh sea air, and to enjoy some quality family time.

Here are the highlights of our trip:

The drive

We have just purchased a new Group 1 car seat, the Nuna Rebl to replace our Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix, and I must say that our little one loves it! She is happy to sit in it for long periods of time and look at the window, or watch The BFG on iPlayer (this is the only film we could find to download, so she watched it about 5 times). I’m so pleased that she likes the car seat as our drive from London to Tenby took 8 hours, usually it takes 5 hours, it seemed that most of the country were heading to Cornwall, Devon or Wales for the Easter holidays.

The beaches

The day we arrived was the best day weather wise, it was gorgeously bright and sunny. We made the most of this by taking a walk along the beaches, around the harbour and the cannons, and then down to the South Beach Grill for a pint which felt very much deserved after such a long time in the car. One of the best things about Tenby is its beaches, there are 3 – the North Beach, the South Beach and the Harbour Beach, all are beautiful and clean. I’m looking forward to spending more time on the beach when our little one is older to build sandcastles and paddle in the sea.

The food

We enjoyed some good food eating out at Top Joes Pizzeria in Tenby, and The Cambrian in Solva. Both places were really accommodating with our little one, providing enough space for the buggy and a high chair too. In the evening we stayed in, but treated ourselves to steak one night and a pie the other night from the local butcher in Narberth.

The weather

I think that we experienced pretty much all weather’s during this break, we had glorious sunshine and warmth the day we arrived, with really heavy rain and hail on Saturday and Sunday when Storm Katie rolled in. It would always be chucking it down with rain and blowing a gale every time we wanted to get out of the car. For me, it’s not about the weather, although we all wish for sunshine, it’s about spending time with my husband and daughter, and being out of London for a few days too.

We also had a few highlights from our little one too:

  • Making other babies smile – During our lunch at The Cambrian there was another little girl who was upset, the parents kept bringing her over to us as our little one would cheer her up by smiling and waving.
  • Waving – We are now getting waves from our little one when you wave at her. It’s more of an arm/body shake at the moment, but she’ll get there.
  • Concept of play – I really noticed that our little one is showing so much more of an interest and excitement with her toys. She will study them closely, and now has the patience to play with them much longer than previously. She’ll also get excited if she sees a toy that she’s not played with for a while.
  • Feeling the full force of wind – not hers, the weather. As I mentioned before every time we got on the car it was blowing a gale, I’ve never seen such a shocked face from her as when we had to transfer her from the car to her buggy.

We had a lovely break and are very much looking forward to going back in a few weeks, teaming it up with a trip to North Wales too. Look out for my blog post on Wales Week coming soon.

I hope you enjoyed reading.

It sounds like a lovely break! It’s so nice to get away together as a family – I remember a few family holidays to Tenby, and it look idyllic in your picture! I love when they start interacting more with other kids, and the trying to cheer others up is so cute. Boo for Storm Katie though, giving us Katy’s a bad name! (At least she had a different spelling!) #bloggerclubUK

Ha ha yes at least she had a different name, it was such a shame for bad weather over the Easter weekend…typical isn’t it? Thanks so much for reading and commenting. Claire x

Ah I love this post….I can’t tell you how much I’m in the mood for a holiday and seaside breaks are my absolutely favourite. Tenby is on my list of places to go with my son. He also adores the beach…sand castles, throwing stones, ice cream…what’s not to love! I’m glad you had a sunny arrival, but I bet it was great wild and windy too. #familyfun

Well you can get all of those things in Tenby. I think at this time of year we are all in need for a break, the Christmas break seems like ages ago and Summer is a few months away. The weather was fairly typical for Wales, let’s hope it’s good in a few weeks time. Thanks for reading and commenting. Claire x

That’s so lovely that you had a family break! Your weather sounds like what we have on the west of Ireland – it can make it more difficult to get around but you have the right attitude about it! Thanks so much for joining us at #bloggerclubuk x

That photo looks really amazing! Looks like a lovely place to go, and 8 hours woah! No way my little ones would sit still in the car for that long, lucky you! Sorry to hear you didn’t have the weather but it seems like you had a lovely time nonetheless xx #bloggerclubuk
