Festive Trips To Sussex

The festive period will soon be upon us. The countdown to Christmas has already begun. All you need to do is look in stores to see Christmas cards, Christmas chocolates and Christmas trees. And what better way to mark this season than with a lovely holiday? Taking a trip away with your partner or your family is a brilliant way of starting off the festivities in style. There are lots of wonderful places in England which will offer you an exciting and fun-filled trip. One of these places is East Sussex.

East Sussex is picturesque to say the least. This is the type of place you want to be going to because the beauty is really enhanced during the Christmas period. In addition to this, you should make sure you check out any events in the area. Last year East Sussex paid host to a vast number of different festive occasions. The following are just a mere handful of the events that took place; Festive Food and Drink Fayre, Santa Cruises, Santa Hat Tourney, A Tudor Christmas, and Christmas Artists’ Open Houses. From Christmas fairs to the turning on of the Christmas lights; you will be spoilt for choice – that’s for sure. Take a look and see if there are any you want to incorporate into your trip. 

Of course, no matter what time of year you go to East Sussex there is a wealth of phenomenal tourist attractions. This is a county that is popular all year round after all. A lot of these major tourist attractions actually host Christmas events. So keep an eye out! The following well-known places tend to put on something to remember; Balthazar’s Palace, Drusillas Park, Bodiam Castle, The Royal Pavilion, Fishbourne Roman Palace and Arundel Wetland Centre. And don’t forget to enjoy one of everybody’s favourite wintertime activities; ice skating. There are various places throughout East Sussex offering this opportunity, however, the Royal Pavilion is undoubtedly the most magical. This is of course situated in Brighton. 

Many people would be in agreement with the fact that when you go on holiday it is always nice to try and soak in as much information as possible about the history of the area. This is what makes a place truly unique. You get to take a trip into the magical stories of the past and this can be something that is extremely exciting and provides you with occasions you will never forget.

If you are visiting Sussex then you are in luck because there is a wealth of different historical sites that are well worth a visit. You should definitely try and fit as many of these places into your holiday plans as possible…

The Battle Abbey

The Battle Abbey is the site that was host to the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings. This is assured to provide you and the family with a day out to remember. After all, you will be able to walk on the same steps that William the Conqueror and King Harold did. The Battle Abbey is currently open every day of the week; from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. 

Anne of Cleves House

Many people deem the Tudor period to be the most fascinating in British history. If you are one of these people then you should definitely take a trip to Lewes and explore the Anne of Cleves House for yourself. You can see exactly how the Tudors lived and take a trip down memory lane as you learn more about one of the most famous kings to ever rule England; Henry VIII. 

Bodiam Castle

This castle is one of the most picturesque and magical sights you will ever see. It dates back to the 14th century and boasts an array of fantastic features. The castle contains everything you would expect, including a moat and a portcullis, and no one can deny the romantic and fairytale-like quality of Bodiam Castle either. 

Royal Pavilion

The Royal Pavilion is one of the most popular attractions in the whole of Sussex. The 19th century house was a former royal residence and this is evident from the opulent glamour and lavish adornments. The palace, which was constructed for Prince Regent, has an exotic quality to it that is simply stunning. 

Fishermen’s Museum

And last but not least there is the Fishermen’s Museum located in Hastings. This museum used to be a church and is now home to an array of maritime history pieces and fishing industry memorabilia. The museum has actually been awarded a Grade II for architectural importance and historical significance by English Heritage.  

Mark this year’s festive season off in style with a lovely vacation. There are lots of fantastic places to consider. However, none come quite as close as East Sussex. The place is recommended all year round. But, when Christmas descends the fun and excitement reaches a whole new level and this is something you definitely don’t want to miss out on. Don’t forget to choose your accommodation with care. As mentioned, there are lots of beautiful cottages in East Sussex and these are quite simply perfect for the winter period. You can cosy up by the fire after a fun-filled day and eat a mince pie or two! Sheer bliss!
