48 hours in Berlin with children

Berlin is bold and dramatic and is famously reputed to be one of the most creative cultural centres in Europe. There is history pulsating on every corner, and it is indeed a hub for the history buffs as well as hedonists. How to enjoy Berlin with your family and kids?

Well, not many people know but Berlin is a fantastic place for the children. The transport system is easy, and there are parks everywhere. What’s more, English is widely spoken and understood, and do not miss Berlin’s food scene which is as varied and exciting as the city. Berliners are loving and patient towards children, and there are plenty of attractions that will keep the family happily engaged. Every family should spend a couple of days here for a memorable holiday indeed.

Here is a brief guide on how to spend your 48 hours in Berlin with your family.

Day One

Start your trip with the Brandenburg Gate, which is the most famous landmark in Berlin. Learn about the history of the building and explore the small museum. Another great attraction is Reichstag which is free and offers excellent views of the city. Berlin’s Zoo and Aquarium is great and visited by locals and tourists. Kinderbauernhöfe is another must to do activity for families, and smaller children will absolutely love the farmyards. Here, they can stroke and feed the animals and participate in workshops activities.

During lunchtime, you can visit any of the smart spots for lunch. The Neni restaurant is popular with all because of its country greenhouse look and Mediterranean cuisine.

After lunch, make your way towards Potsdamer Platz which is another excellent destination for families. Here, you will find numerous family-friendly attractions such as Legoland Discovery Centre, Spy Museum and movie theatres like CinemaxX. The whole family can have a good time here shopping, eating and watching a movie.

End the day with a great pizza at Due Forni, a chaotic restaurant that doesn’t mind noisy kids and serves thin-crust pizzas. After dinner, it is time to head back to the hotel and prepare the children for a good night rest so that they wake up refreshed for another exciting day in Berlin.

Day Two

After a full night’s sleep and breakfast, start the next day with a trip to the Museum Island. There, you can enjoy visiting world-class museums and art galleries, and many of these are UNESCO world heritage sites. Once you are done with the Museum Island, you can visit the biggest church in Berlin, Berliner Dom that is situated right next to the Museum Island.

At lunchtime, head for kindercafes which are especially geared for families and serve chicken nuggets, fries, sausages, meatballs, pasta and other foods that are a favorite with the children. These cafes often boast a dedicated play area!

After lunch, you can spend a relaxing afternoon at Tiergarten, a famous central park. You can laze or bike around or plan a picnic in this child-friendly garden. Enjoy the recreational space with the many rollerbladers, cyclists, and kite-flyers.

With the night fast approaching, your children are probably tired and hungry.  Take them to Nest, located in the Kreuzberg district. When hunger strikes and you can enjoy an extensive buffet with a colorful spread of nuts, meats, cheeses, and yogurts.

Berlin is indeed an exciting place for the whole family as there are plenty of locations and ideas to keep the children happy. There are many more possibilities, so you are sure to come back here for another holiday with your children.
