What I love about being a Mummy

Being a Mum of two children is fantastic, demanding, challenging, tiring, exhausting, overwhelming and amazing. I can feel all of these feelings in 10 minutes. Parenting is not easy, and has so many ups and downs. One minute I can be having the best day with the children, and then the next minute I am longing for bedtime to arrive.

Among all the bad days or bad hours, there are so many good bits. I don’t know about you but I often overlook these and end up moaning to my husband at the end of the day about how bad the children have been. So instead of dwelling on the negatives this post is all about the positives of parenting and why I love being a Mummy of two children. These are the things that I need to remember and what I love.

  • When my daughter reaches out to grab my hand when we are out and about. It doesn’t happen very often, and I know that I need to cherish these moments as they definitely won’t last forever.
  • When my son wraps his little hand around my fingers or holds onto my arm during one of the many night feeds. This is probably the only good thing about the gazillion night feeds at the moment.
  • At bedtime my daughter always wants about a million books read to her to delay bedtime and me leaving the room. When I kiss her goodnight she always wraps her arms around my neck and gives me a big smacker on the lips. That always makes me smile and reminds me just how loving she really is.
  • It’s amazing to see my children interact with each other, and my daughter being nice to my son. About 25% of the time she loves to cuddle him, kiss him and stroke him, and it is lovely to see him smiling back and laughing with her (he does actually laugh). I won’t talk about the other 75%.
  • Speaking of laughing, my son giggles when you are changing him. That sounds really weird, but it is really sweet. It is lovely to hear a 5 month old baby laugh and it makes my heart feel all fuzzy.
  • My daughter is really shy going in to nursery, and I know that in 5 minutes or as soon as I’ve left she’ll be talking and shouting. I do find it sweet that she wants to hide behind me and demands for her hand to be held as we are walking up the four flights of stairs.
  • I do secretly love it in the mornings when our daughter comes into our bed every single morning at about 6.15am and gets herself under the covers. Although this can be pretty annoying at times at least it is giving me more time to sleep instead of having to go downstairs with her.
  • I love seeing my husband with our children, he has the ability to make a bad day disappear in seconds. He instantly refreshes a demanding and shouty toddler, and our baby beams at him when he walks in the room.
  • Lastly how the two of them bring a huge smile to my face and make me laugh, often when I am least expecting it.

Writing this has really made me think about all the things that I love about being a mummy. It’s not an easy job, nor is it a walk in the park. It’s hard work, but it is so incredibly rewarding. My husband and I are really lucky to have two beautiful children.

I’m not the only one who loves being a Mummy, here’s why some other family and parenting bloggers feel the same.

Katy Kicker – I love being a Mum because I spent so many years longing fora baby of my own while everyone else started their own families. After being told I had a 3% chance of success I still can’t believe she’s here 2.5 years later.

Over 40 and a Mum to One – I love being a Mum and seeing the world through my 8 year old’s eyes and seeing the look on his face when we surprise him with something he loves. Making memories which hopefully he will carry with him for a lifetime It’s the best job in the world, even on those days when it’s not going to plan.

Yorkshire Wonders – I love being a mum because it gives my life focus. Everything I do is for my family and that makes me feel really good. Seeing them happy makes me happy and I get to experience what they are experiencing. I have told them they have to stay small always (they are not listening!.

Chilling with Lucas – I have a beautiful 3 year old that smiles at me every morning like I am the only person in the world. Nothing better than waking up to that. It’s so corny but true and he’s my little mate for all our adventures ahead.

Suburban Mum – I love being s mum because it It doesn’t matter if I’ve had a bad day at work, I know I have my boys to come home to and they always brighten it up and make me laugh.

Someone’s Mum – I love being a mum because both of my kids are really cool human beings… and they have made me a better one.

Meghan Brook – I love being a mum because my daughter is everything I always wanted (especially after having two miscarriages). I love making memories with her and watching her smile!

Something About Baby – I love being a mum because it gives me a focus in life – everything I do, I do with my boys in mind. If I’m having a bad day, just a giggle, smile or squish with them helps lift the negatives and remind me of how lucky I am!

Life Unexpected – I love being a Mum for so many reasons. Firstly, I love getting to watch my daughter grow. Seeing a little tiny human that you created grow, develop and become such a unique personality is just magical. Secondly, I love being a Mum because every day I know I have this little person watching me and being influenced by me. This has given me the determination to go after my dreams and goals, because if I don’t do that, how can I encourage my daughter to do that?

Hollybobbs – I love being a mum because I have a chronic illness and they give me a reason to get up on a morning. Without them in my life I feel I would have given up a long time ago.

Tantrums to Smiles – I love being a mum because its a whole new adventure I never knew existed! I love the unexpected nature of having little ones around and I never knew my heart could feel so much love until I become a parent! I also love that it lets me be a big kid and climb around soft plays, ooh and aah at cute animals at the zoo and jump in big splashy puddles without any awkward stares! Oh and that I always have a little person for warm, cosy and squishy cuddles

So next time I’m having a bad hour or bad day, I’ll think back to this list and hopefully this will help.

What do you love about being a mummy.
