How to protect your family’s future with Smart Cells

Imagine if you or your child were sick and needed life saving treatment. Fortunately for us we live in a world where science and technology is rapidly transforming, and it is being used to help save lives from certain illnesses and diseases by the process of stem cell and cord blood collection after the delivery of your baby.

When I was pregnant I heard about the collection of stem cells and cord blood from the umbilical cord and placenta. I even signed something to agree to do just that at the time of going into hospital to be induced, only a 60 hour labour and c-section later meant that I don’t think it even happened. Although at the time I think the cells were only being used for research purposes.

With my case in mind and reading information on stem cell collection it feels like many people are not aware of it, or its benefits. So, here are just a few:

  • Stem cells have the potential to develop into various different cell types of the body including blood, bone, tissue and organ.
  • One of the advantages of these cell types is that they are used to repair, maintain and fight against any diseases in the future. After a stem cell transplant the new healthy cells will find the damaged or diseased cells and replace them.
  • A cord blood stem cell transplant can be used to rebuild your blood and immune system. And, more recently it’s been able to form other tissues in the body including nerve and bone cells.
  • Stem cells are already being used to treat leukaemia, cerebral palsy, sickle cell disease, Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, spinal cord injuries and thalassemia.
  • Lastly people think that the collection of stem cells and cord blood is painful to the Mother and Baby. This is not the case with the stem cells and cord blood being collected after the cord has been cut and the placenta delivered.

The entire stem cell and cord blood collection is safely completed by Smart Cells, who will also store the collected cells to treat against over 80 illnesses and diseases for your child and your family.
