How to make yourself feel better after having a baby

This is not going to be one of those Daily Mail type posts where I promote making yourself look amazing 6 weeks after having baby. I’m not sure how on earth those celebrities do it? They must be splashing out thousands on personal trainers, not eating and not seeing their child. That is certainly not the way you should be living after having a baby. So this post is all about how we can make ourselves feel better without the need for surgery or just eating lettuce.

Walk, walk, walk

Once you’re able to, and you feel ready to, get out of the house for a walk. It doesn’t need to be a long walk, it can be a short walk or however long you fancy. It’s great for you to get some fresh air, and will make you feel a million times better if you’ve been cooped up for a few days or weeks. Plus it’s a good thing to do to feel like you’re winning at this Mum game.

Wear lipstick

Really simple, but if you haven’t had a shower for a few days or have the energy to wear a full face of make-up, then just apply a simple red lipstick. It will make you feel so much better, and any guests visiting will also think you’re nailing being a Mum, even though underneath you might be crumbling inside. Just putting on a simple red lipstick can do the world of good.

Eat healthy

It might be the last thing that you want to do after going through labour, you’re just craving carbs and yellow food, but make sure you have some healthy snacks on hand to have through the day. It doesn’t need to be crisps or chocolates, it could be crackers and cheese, fruit, cereal bars, or yoghurts. Eating healthy doesn’t need to be complicated, and it’s best to just have some quick and easy snacks you can easily reach.

Fat freezing

This is something you might consider further down the line, not immediately after you’ve had a baby. But if you’ve got some stubborn fatty areas that you’re struggling to shift you could give CoolSculpting in London a go. There is no surgery involved and the fat is frozen away. It could be belly fat, back fat or double chin fat that you want to remove, simply contact CoolSculpting if you’re thinking about it.

Sign up to Buggy Fit classes

There are so many of these around the country and they often take place in your local park. It’s a great way to get out of the house for a certain time, giving you and your baby some fresh air. Plus it’s the perfect opportunity for you to make some new Mum friends. I always wish that I had done a Buggy Fit class as they looked like a lot of fun whilst I was out on the many walks with my daughter.

Make some time for you

Lastly make some time for you. This is really important. In the beginning it feels like you have to be there for the baby 24/7, and it’s so hard if you’re breastfeeding. However in between feeds make time for something you want to do, or just to spend an hour by yourself. This could be as simple as going for a walk, popping to the shops or having a relaxing hot bubble bath.

These are just some ways that you can make yourself feel and look better after having a baby. They can all be done in your time, and there really is no pressure to be back to yourself 6 weeks after giving birth….don’t let anyone tell you that.

How did you make yourself feel better after having your baby?
