Here are your best money saving tips

As a parent of two small children with a full house renovation taking place at the moment, I am desperate to save money and to curb our household spending. Aside from these two things I am always on the look-out for the best deal so that I can pump money into my savings account rather than spending it on over-the-top bills.

I’m sure that many of us feel the same?

There are many ways in which we as parents, as householders, as individuals can save money. It doesn’t really matter what your circumstances are, I bet that one of your priorities is to save? So here are a few of my best money saving tips that you can start doing today. In fact right now….

Switch your broadband supplier

One of the first things that we did when we moved house last year was to find the cheapest broadband provider. We knew that we wanted fibre broadband, so we weren’t looking for the cheapest, but we knew the product that we wanted.

Simply Switch Broadband can help you to find the best deal for your requirements. You might be looking for high speed broadband to allow you to stream and download files, or something less expensive that you are just using for the day-to-day. So if your broadband deal is up for renewal do make sure that you shop around.

Shop for your food online

I don’t know about you but I am an avid online food shopper. In fact I think since Bertie arrived I’ve only taken him to a big supermarket once. He has of course been into the local Co-op with me every day over the past 4 months as it has been virtually impossible to do a big food shop with a temporary kitchen.

However prior to our renovation project I did a big online food shop every week, and the savings can be huge. You’ll stick to your list, and you won’t be tempted to spend too long in the chocolate and crisps aisle buying things you don’t need. Online shopping is also a great way to make savings on baby essentials, as it makes bulk buying the nappies and wipes that little bit easier. Plus you’ll never over spend because you’re hungry.

Prioritise your spending for the month

At the start of each month think about all the things that you are going to need to buy and the things that you want to buy. Prioritise this list by making sure that you have funds to cover what you need, and if you have money left over use this to buy yourself a little treat. Or alternatively place this leftover money into your savings.

By thinking about what you need to pay for and buy will mean that you are less likely to fritter your money away on all those takeaway coffees, and may mean that you end up with more money in your bank account at the end of each month.

Shop around for the best energy deals

There is always a deal when it comes to your energy bills (gas and electric). These are a really simple bill to switch to make sure that you’re on the best deal for your home. I used to think it was difficult to switch provider, but actually it is really easy. In most cases it’s a matter of signing up to the new supplier, and they handle the transition. All that you will usually need to do is to provide your latest meter readings and that’s it. It’s that easy and you can start to do this right now.

Use nearly new sales and clothes swap

If you’re a parent you will know how quickly your children grow out of their clothes. You probably have bags and bags of clothes that have only been worn a handful of times, and you’re probably sick of buying new clothes. Consider going to a nearly new sale where you can buy preloved clothes at a fraction of the price, or you could swap clothes with a friend who has children at a slightly different age to yours. This is a great way of saving money, plus you’ll be helping the environment too!

So those are just five of my top tips to help you save money. Will you be using any of the tactics in the future?
