Did you know that light can damage your food and drink products? - Claire Moran Designs
This is a collaborative post. Did you know that indoor light can damage your food and drink products, and that includes milk and many products that we as adults eat and drink. Scarily after only 15 minutes of light exposure the taste of milk changes, and by light exposure I mean indoor LED and fluorescent lights such as in supermarket fridges, and not just the sunlight that may falls onto your bottle of milk whilst it is being carted home in the bottom of your buggy. Recent scientific studies have identified that within just 15 minutes of indoor light exposure from LED lights people noticed a change in the taste of their milk, and after an hour of light exposure Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) was reduced by 28% in milk, and after two hours milk begins to loose its Vitamin A. I actually find this to be pretty alarming….don’t you? To be honest as a day-to-day consumer going about my own business, I had never considered light exposure to be a thing. I had no idea that it starts to strip away the vitamins that we as parents are reliant upon in our children’s food and drink, and also in our food and drink. So when Noluma contacted me about certified light protective packaging I was intrigued. Firstly why on earth do we need light protective packaging, hence the reason that I had no idea about vitamins being lost, and secondly what can light protective packaging do to help us. Noluma is the leader in light-protection technology. They work with milk retailers and brands to measure how much light there packaging lets through and works with them to ensure it has the highest level of light protection. Packaging with the Noluma logo on certifies that the product is protected indoor light damage, preserving its nutrients and vitamins, and its taste and freshness. Basically all the stuff that we as normal day-to-day customers expect there to be in that product. As a consumer of many products that are impacted by light I support the cause to bring Noluma packaging onto more of our day-to-day products. Next week I’m excited to be attending an event where I’ll learn more about how this certified light protect packaging can help us and you, so watch this space and my social channels for more info.
